Earl Mason Hinson, a dedicated husband, father, and Marine Corps Veteran, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 19, 2024, at the age of 90. Born on July 11, 1933, Earl lived a life marked by service, dedication, and hard work.
A funeral service to honor Earl’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, officiated by Pastor John Carswell. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment with military honors will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Earl was born on July 11, 1933, in Nashville, Tennessee, to the late Earl and Cora Hinson. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1950 deploying for both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was an honorary Marine Corps Mustang, having served both enlisted - attaining the rank of First Sergeant, before earning his commission as a Second Lieutenant. He retired from Cherry Point in 1980 as a Chief Warrant Officer - 4.
After retirement, Earl continued to serve his community through his passion for woodworking. A master craftsman, he built his family’s home and created custom furniture that will be cherished for generations. His skill and love for woodworking also led him to run the Hobby Shop at Cherry Point for many years, where he shared his knowledge and inspired others with his creativity and expertise.
Earl was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Cora; his brother, Carl Hinson; sisters, Rita and Laura; and his sons, Joel and Matthew.
Those remaining to treasure his memory are his loving wife of 54 years, Betsy Garner Hinson; daughters, Tracy Alpert (Jack) of Newport and Kay Hallie (Jamie) of Illinois; brothers, Ray Hinson (Barbara) of Tennessee, Morris Hinson (Gail) of Michigan, and Charles “Chuck” Hinson (Cindy) of Michigan; many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his grand-puppy Bowen.
Earl's life was grounded in his faith and love for God. His unwavering faith was a source of strength and guidance throughout his life. He will be deeply missed, but his legacy will live on.
