Earl Warren Campbell

Earl Warren Campbell, 70, of Morehead City, NC, passed away on Monday, October 29­, 2018, at the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport, NC.

There will be a Celebration of Life service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at the Moose Lodge in Newport, with full military honors, as well as rites of service by his fellow Moose members.

Earl was the youngest son of the late Ernest R. and Myrtle Thomas Campbell of Lynchburg, Virginia. He attended Rustburg High School and retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service to our Country as Technical Sargent, grade E6. He travelled throughout Europe and Asia as well as the United States while in service.

Earl was an avid pool player and enjoyed travelling as leader of a team from state to state representing his state in APA tournaments. He was loved by many and we will always have fond memories of his jokes and tricks and kind and fun-loving heart. Like many in the Campbell family, he took pride in and enjoyed being a member of the military and organizations that serve their country and their community and fellowman. You will be missed greatly Earl.

Earl was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) #8986  and The Royal Order of the Moose Lodge # 2194 in Newport, NC, where he moved up through the ranks and served as Governor in 1997 and 1998.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Mary D. “Libby” Campbell of Morehead City; and sister, Lois Barksdale of Lynchburg, VA; step-daughters, Jean Sutphen and husband George of Raleigh, NC, Lynn Coltrain and husband Heber of Williamston, NC, and Jill Husk and husband Robert of Colton, CA; step-son, Mark Davis of Raleigh, NC; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Earl is also survived by sisters-in-law, Alice Murrill of Pikeville, NC, Judy Campbell of Concord, VA, JoAnn Taylor, Betty Campbell of Richmond, VA; and brother-in-law, Eddie Covington of Lynchburg, VA.

He was preceded in death by brothers, Ernest Campbell, Jr. of Concord, VA, Robert Campbell of Richmond, VA Walter Campbell of Hampton, VA; and sister, Esther Covington of Lynchburg, VA.

The family would like to thank the workers and nurses at the SECU Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport for their generosity, understanding and care of Earl during his last days.
