E. "Woody" Burke

E. “Woody” Burke, 80, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, December 16, 2023, at Carteret Health Care.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Ernestine better known “Woody” was born on December 1, 1943, in New Bern, to the late Ernest T. and Bertha W. Hollowell. She was a loving mother to her children and the apple of her eyes were her grandchildren.

Woody retired from working many dedicated years with the Civil Service. She was a member of the Crystal Coast Church of the Nazarene. She was a very independent women, honest, and she spoke her mind.  Woody loved animals, especially her furry companions. Her family loved her cooking, her specialty was her coco pudding.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are her daughter, Anita Jo Loper (George) of Green Cove Springs, FL; sons, Jeff Teal (Patty Owens) of Moore, OK, Curtis Hutchings (Susan) of Morehead City, NC; brother, Tuffy Hollowell  of New Bern, NC, grandchildren, Jamie Goodson (Morgan) of Chesapeake, VA, Haley Stitt (Adam) of Starke, FL, Blake Hutchings of Havelock, NC; many loving nieces and nephews; and her furry companion, DT.

In addition to her parents, Woody was preceded in death by her sisters, Sioux Collins, Linda Jones, and Phyllis Jones.
