Dr. Virgil H. Mewborn, 74, of Atlantic Beach, passed away Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at home.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City with Bishop Sam Rollins presiding. Interment will follow the service at Gethsemane Memorial Park.
Virgil was a 4th generation optometrist with practices in Burlington, NC, New Bern, NC and Morehead City, NC. He was the current owner of Carteret Vision Center. Virgil had a great love of golf where he met many lifelong friends. He enjoyed his volunteer work with the VIPs program in Atlantic Beach, NC.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Paige Killinger Mewborn of Newport; daughter, Elizabeth Anne Mewborn of Newport; son, Brandon McGrath and wife Jen of Cincinnati, OH; and sisters, Jane Mewborn Stenberg and husband Ron of Punta Gorda, FL and Suzanne Mewborn Jones and husband Whitney of Winston Salem; one grandchild, Ella Ann McGrath; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Ruby “Britt” Mewborn; and brother, Tommy Mewborn.
The family will welcome friends one hour prior to the service at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.
