Douglas Ray Waldrop, Sr.

June 24, 1939 — February 16, 2015

Douglas R. Waldrop, Sr., 75, of Beaufort, passed away Monday, February 16, 2015 at Cherry Point Bay Nursing Home.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Doug was born June 24, 1939 to the late Leonard R. and Myra Waldrop. He was a chemical engineer technician for multiple chemical plating companies. He enjoyed taxidermy and had a shop in Pinebluff, NC. He also taught taxidermy at Sandhills Community College. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing.

He was past Master of the Masonic Lodge in Aberdeen, NC and a member of the Franklin Lodge in Beaufort. He was also a Shriner. He was an active volunteer firefighter at the Whispering Pines Fire Department for 16 years. He was also Sandhills Emergency Services seminar leader for a number of years, and the Disaster Chairman for the Red Cross for 5 years.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Waldrop; two sons, Charles Waldrop and Ray Waldrop, Jr.; daughter, Jeannie Cross; step-son, Chris Holder and wife Jeanie; brother, Johnny Waldrop and wife Carol; sister, Melda Whitten; and five grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to to a local fire department or masonic lodge.
