Douglas Campen

Douglas “Doug” Campen, 63, of Morehead City, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at Duke Raleigh Hospital.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 4, 2017 at the Country Club of the Crystal Coast in Pine Knoll Shores.
Doug was born in Norfolk, VA, and moved to Cape Carteret at 16 years old. He graduated from West Carteret High School Class of 1973. He married his high school sweetheart, Cathy and was happily married for 43 years. He started working for the N.C. State Port and had a successful career for 30 years which included serving as the Chief of Police. He retired in 2008 to enjoy traveling, boating, and camping with his wife. A short period of time was spent with the Atlantic Beach Police Department and as the maintenance technician for Crystal Bluffs.
Doug enjoyed being an active member of his community. A longtime member of Morehead City Noon Rotary and the N.C. Seafood Festival Committee. He was a volunteer for the Morehead City Fire Department for over 10 years. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Cathy Campen of the home; daughter, Lisa Campen Wallace and husband Brad of Hampstead; son, Bradley Douglas Campen of Morehead City; mother, Elizabeth “Libby” Campen of Cape Carteret; brother, Eric Campen, Jr. and wife Pam of Durham; sister, Tami Schleining and husband Butch of Belgrade; two grandchildren, Parker Wallace and Lauren Wallace; sister-in-law, Joni Willis; also, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eric Campen, Sr.; maternal grandparents, Virgil Lupton and Violet Lupton; and paternal grandparents, Albert Campen and Mollie Campen.
