Dorothy Stevens

Dorothy Stant Stevens, age 86 died peacefully at home Tuesday, October 13, 2009 surrounded by her loving family.

She was born July 4, 1923 in Sanford, Virginia to Mallory and Blanche (Corbin) Stant. She is preceded in death by two brothers Stuart and Vernon.

Dot received her nursing degree from Methodist Hospital in Philadelphia, PA in 1946. While pursuing her nursing degree she met her husband Ralph B. Stevens. They were married January 3, 1944.

In addition to her nursing career she was a consultant to the North Carolina Commission for the Blind for approximately twenty years. Dot and R.B lived in the Raleigh area for 34 years before retiring to Carteret County in 1985.

Dot was an active member of First Baptist Church in Morehead City serving as a Sunday School Teacher for 8 years. She enjoyed needlework, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family.

Dot is survived by R.B.; three sons, James C. and wife Anne of Newport, NC, Alan R. and wife Melinda of Raleigh, NC and David B. and wife Pam of Texhoma, OK. She has eight grandchildren; Jim, Jr., Phillip, Melissa, Alan, Margaret, Joey, Rachael and Josh and three great grandchildren, Madeline, Foster and Zachary.

The family wishes to extend its deepest appreciation to Hospice of Carteret County, Dr. Amy Charlesworth and Dot?s primary caregiver Rhonda K. Lamb for their untiring support and kindness.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday evening, October 14, 2009 at Munden Funeral Home, 2112 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC.

A funeral service will be held at, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2009 at First Baptist Church, 810 Bridges Street, Morehead City, NC. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Carteret County, 302 Medical Park Court, Morehead City, NC.
