Dorothy Beasley Powell, 92, of Hallsboro, NC, passed away Friday, May 29, 2020, at Cherry Point Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Havelock, after months of declining health.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2020, at Smith Cemetery in Hallsboro, NC, officiated by Rev. Steve Epperson. For those unable to attend, the family invites you to view the webcasting of the service through Dorothy’s obituary page on Munden Funeral Home’s website. Friends are also encouraged to leave words of comfort to the family through the website.
Dorothy was born in Columbus County to the late Willie Lyon Beasley and Annie Bell Jordan Beasley. Even though she had no biological children of her own, she helped raise many nieces and nephews. She was fondly known by many as “Aunt Dot”, she was truly loved and will be sadly missed.
She is survived by her nieces, Jane Smith Bell, June Smith Ridge, Lillie Sue “Susie” Hill Donnell; nephews, William “Buddy” Beasley, Bobby Beasley, Jeff Beasley, Jerry Beasley and J.D. Ward; and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wishard Marvin Powell; parents, Willie and Annie Beasley; sister, Sarah Love Beasley Hill; brothers, Jefferson “Jeff” D. Beasley and William Allen “WA” Beasley; nieces, Gralyn Beasley Buffkin, and Rosanna Beasley Horne; and nephew, Mike Beasley.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Curtis McGirt ~ Smith Cemetery at 2651 Honeyhill Road, Hallsboro, NC 28442 or to a charity of one’s choice.
