Dorothy Carolyn Kelley, 76, of Morehead City, passed away at her home.
A service will be announced at a later date.
Dorothy was born on July 18,1944, in Richmond, VA, to the late Lewis and Carrie Kelley. She worked as an Administrative Assistant for over 30 years at Virginia Commonwealth University. After her retirement, her compassionate nature and approach to life led her to Equality Virginia, where she loved to dedicate her time and energy.
She loved sewing, shopping at thrift stores, crossword puzzles, traveling with her friend Anne Peterson, and eating chocolate. She especially loved her family and her dog Foster. Her often proclaimed life philosophy was: “Life is unpredictable. Eat dessert first.”
She is survived by her sons, Matt Burner and wife Sandi of Morehead City, Bob Burner and wife Karen Cress of Montclair, VA, Chris Burner of Morehead City, and Steve Burner and wife Becca of Richmond, VA; brother, Robert Kelley and wife Bonnie of Richmond, VA; and grandchildren, Amber and husband Jeffery, Justine, Madeleine, Michael, and Emma.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Linda Mills.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Equality Virginia, P.O. Box 17860, Richmond, VA 23226 or online at http://equalityvirginia.org/events/remembering-dorothy/
