Dorothy Jean Davies went to be with the Lord on October 9, 2017, just a month shy of her 93rd birthday.

Her funeral service will be held Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC, officiated by Pastor Norma Waligora and Peter J. Eck. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park, Newport, NC. Friends are welcome to join the family following the graveside service, for lunch at the Faith Evangelical Bible Church Fellowship Hall.

She was a resident of Bloom at Bluffton in Bluffton, SC.  Dorothy was born in Warren, Ohio on November 13, 1924 to the late Paul and Charlene Hoagland.  She graduated from Nyack Missionary Institute and served for several years as a missionary with her then husband Paul Eck.  She lived most of her life in New Jersey as a homemaker and seamstress par excellence.  In 1987, she married Harold Davies with whom she moved to North Carolina and took up sail-boating when both were in their 60s!  Harold died in 2007, and Dorothy moved to Bluffton, SC following a stroke in 2013. She was an active life-long participant in the churches she attended in the various places she lived.  Her life was centered around her family and love of the Lord and doing His work.

Throughout her life, Dorothy loved to cook and bake, and to try new recipes.  Right up until the time of her stroke at age 88, she continued to bake multiple kinds of Christmas cookies which she often mailed to her children and grandchildren around the country.  She also learned the art of making Swedish “bulla” from her mother-in-law; her grandchildren will miss that wonderful coffee ring, but she taught several of her daughters-in-law and their daughters and a grandson how to make it, so the tradition will be continued!  One of the delights of her life while she was still able was travelling around the country to family events such as weddings, graduations, etc.

She is survived by five loving children and their spouses:  Karen (Fred) White of New York City, NY; David (Sherri) Eck of Moses Lake, WA; Ingrid (Jack) Rennie of Bluffton, SC; Peter (Leann) Eck of Raleigh, NC; and Timothy (Barbara) Eck of Blairstown, NJ; grandchildren Michelle (Brian) Davies, Joshua (Deborah) White, David (Emily) Eck, Kelly (James) Curry, Jonathon (Janelle) Eck, George (Margi) Raupp, Laura (Ross) Cameron, Katie (Andrew) Camplen, Peter (Katie) Eck, Timothy Eck, Alexandra Eck, and Meghan Eck; and 23 great-grandchildren at last count!

Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home, Morehead City, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy’s honor to the Great Commission Fund of the Christian and Missionary Alliance (on the Give tab of www.cmalliance.org).
