Dora Mae Johnson O'Neal

Dora Mae Johnson O’Neal, 92, entered fully into the arms of her Savior on December 10, 2018, at Snug Harbor on Nelson Bay.

Harkers Island United Methodist Church will hold a memorial service, giving witness to her faith and celebrating her life, at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019.

Carteret County residents may remember Dora having worked at Belk Department Store in the women’s section. After becoming a Licensed Practical Nurse, Dora was employed at Sea Level Hospital, later known as Taylor Family Care.  Her last years, before retiring, were spent caring for the residents of Harbor View Nursing Home in Morehead City.

Dora O’Neal was a long-time member of Harkers Island UMC, having professed her faith and joined the church in 1957.  She truly enjoyed attending church, especially the Senior Sunday School Class, fondly called the Vergie Mae Cemetery Class!

Dora O’Neal is survived by a granddaughter, Jennifer Astra Brinkman of Berlin, Germany.

Dora was preceded in death by her parents, Reverend Carl Johnson and Mrs. Lillian Johnson; husband, Ivey B. O’Neal; son, Larry O’Neal; daughter, Lillian “Lilly” O’Neal;  sister, Ella Johnson Lewis; and brothers, Wellman and Doremus Johnson.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Harkers Island UMC Building Fund.
