Donald Gray Styron, 73, of Cedar Island, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013 at home surrounded by family.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Pilgrim's Rest Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Alvin Keener officiating.
Donald was a member of Pilgrim's Rest Free Will Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and superintendant of Sunday School Classes. He also served in the Carteret County Free Will Baptist Union. He retired from MCS Cherry Point Facility Maintenance Division, and employed to do the duties of a Machinist Union Stewart. After retiring, he worked at Driftwood Enterprises. Donald was an ARMY Vet, founding member of Cedar Island Volunteer Fire Department, American Legion Member, and took part in Norfolk Dredging Company.
He loved his God, his family, his church, gardening, and fishing. He enjoyed meeting new people wherever he went. He also enjoyed taking care of his animals. He was very well loved by all.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Jennifer Rice Styron of Cedar Island; three daughters Melissa Styron Lupton and husband Larry of Cedar Island, Nena Styron Hancock and husband Woody Jr., of Cedar Island, and Carolyn Styron Johnson and husband Gary of New Bern; two brothers Richard Styron and wife Joann of Cedar Island, and Bennie Styron and wife Danielle of Cedar Island; five sisters Caldonia Gaskill and husband Kenneth of Cedar Island, Janet Lee Fulcher of Beaufort, Ellen Goodwin of Cedar Island, Blondie Goodwin and husband Troy of Cedar Island, and Winnie Goodwin of Cedar Island; two grandsons Woody "Bo" Hancock III and spouse Rodney Jacob Lewis of Burgaw, and Andrew Hancock of Cedar Island; four granddaughters Larissa Brooke Lupton of Cedar Island, Savanna Hope Lupton of Cedar Island, Katie Marie Johnson of New Bern, and Courtney Rose Lupton of Cedar Island; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel and Naomi Styron, sister Addie Goodwin, brother Curtis Styron, sister Ester Gilgo, brother Harliss Styron, and granddaughter Kayla Amethyst Lupton.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Friday at Pilgrim's Rest Free Will Baptist Church.
