Donald Lloyd Shanor, 90, of Morehead City, died Tuesday, December 15, 2009, at Crystal Bluffs.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, December 20th, at First Baptist Church in Morehead City with Rev. Charles Royal and Rev. James Deeter officiating.
Mr. Shanor was a faithful member of First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. He was born January 26, 1919 to the late Paul and Marion Shanor in Butler, PA. He received his education in the Butler County schools and graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1942. He worked as a research chemist for a number of years before opening his own business. He owned and operated Morehead Moving and Storage as an agent for Allied Van Lines. Upon his retirement, he joined the Coast Guard Auxillary and was active for 16 years, until his declining health. He served his country during WWII in the US Army Medical Corp, stationed in the Pacific.
The family wishes to express heartfelt appreciation to Dr. and Mrs. Terrence Goodman, Dr. John Gould and the staff at Crystal Bluffs for their compassionate care.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 67 years, Alease Weatherly Shanor; daughter, Betsy and husband James Deeter of Morehead City and grandson, David S. Aleshire of Henderson, NV.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy S. Kimper, two brothers, Dr. Leland Shanor and the Rev. Dr. Richard Shanor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 810 Bridges St., Morehead City, NC, 28557.
Following the memorial service, the family will receive friends in the Family Life Center.
