Donald James Gilpin

Donald James Gilpin, 82, of Newport, died Wednesday July 18, 2012, at Vidant Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday at Graham Memorial Church with Rev. David Wheeler, Rev. Paul Loftin, Rev. Bill Hooper, and Rev. James "Winkie" Chadwick officiating. Interment will follow at the Church cemetery.
Donald was a retired assistant Chief of Mill Creek Fire Department, and retired from Cherry Point with 38 years, he also served in the US Navy and US Air Force.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Barbara C. Gilpin of Mill Creek: two sons Steven Gilpin and wife Renee of Mill Creek and Clayton Gilpin and wife Shelia of Morehead City: two daughters Susan Hollister and husband Bill of Mill Creek and Beth Stephenson and husband Robert of Mill Creek: nine grandchildren: and seven great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Friday at the Graham Memorial Church.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Mill Creek Fire Department 2370 Mill Creek Rd. Newport, NC 28570.
