Donald R. Fischer, 82, of Newport, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2016. He was a resident of the Cherry Point Bay Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the past six months.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Munden Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 pm.
Donald was born in the Bronx, New York, to the late Paul and Margaret Fischer on May 4, 1934.
He was awarded the Purple Heart medal along with many others, for his service with the United States Marine Corps in Korea, and also received an honorable discharge. He also worked for the New York Board of Education for 25 years, and then retired with his wife Margaret “Peggy”, to Newport, NC.
He will be greatly missed by his wife, Margaret “Peggy”, to whom he was married to for sixty happy years; son, Donald Fischer and wife Karen of Portland, Oregon; daughter, Christine Bartelucci and husband Raymond of Cary, North Carolina; grandchildren, Ryan, Kellie, Erik, and Julia; and other family members, friends, and members of the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
