Dominick John Rivas, Jr.

Dominick John Rivas, Jr., 59, of Newport, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2016, at his home surrounded by his family.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am at Gethsemane Memorial Park on Saturday, October 1, 2016, with Pastor Don Wolford officiating.

Dom spent a large majority of his life being a hero. At the age of 14, he became a junior firefighter and over time became an official firefighter as well as a police officer. He rescued and saved many lives over the years. After saving two children from a burning building, he stayed around the clock at the hospital for four days with them. He was a very selfless and giving man. He also was the former owner and operator of Stone Plantation in Morehead City.

He is survived by his wife of the home, Cindy B. Rivas; mother, Ellen Tribbett; daughter, Michelle Colaw and husband Robert; step-son, Christopher Lucas and wife Jessica; brother, James Rivas; sisters, Karen Kenney, Linda Siuma and husband Steve, Patricia Coombes, and Kimberly Guzik and husband George; two grandchildren, Kyle and Megan Williams; numerous nieces and nephews; and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Rivas.
