Devon “T-Bone” Smith, 73, of Cedar Point, NC, formerly from Grifton, left his life’s journey on March 30, 2022, due to cancer. He was a devoted, loving husband of over 50 years to Cathy Smith. He was dedicated to Cathy, two daughters, four granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren.
Born April 15, 1948, to Audoliah and Raymond Smith, he grew up in Smith’s Township of Pink Hill, NC on a tobacco farm, but knew from early on that he did not want to be a farmer. He worked in construction, retail, and textiles, retiring from E. I. Dupont. He enjoyed traveling (went out West twice), live band concerts, camping, fishing, boating, playing cards, karaoke, and simply enjoying life spending quality time with family and friends. T-Bone loved music, from The Beatles to AC/DC, to George Jones. He also DJ’d for weddings.
He loved being “Daddy” “Granddaddy” and “GaGa” and spending time with family, watching his Granddaughters and Great-Grandchildren grow up were his most favorite times of all, creating lasting memories. He had an immense and unconditional love for, and totally adored, each and every one of them. They made him smile, laugh, and feel loved beyond measure.
We are heartbroken, but know he is no longer suffering. He is survived by his wife, Cathy Miller Smith; daughters, Diane Smith Everette and Angie Smith Singer (Steve), all of Greenville, NC; granddaughters, Tracy Eason (C.J.) of Princeton, NC, Jessica Everette of Arlington, VA, Logan Timar (Cody) of Robersonville, NC, Tori Boone of Greenville, NC, Jordan Singer of Greenville, NC; great-grandchildren, Conner and Mallory Eason; and his sister, Ardeth Herman of Cedar Point, NC. Also, his cat who adopted him, Miss Kitty, who was constantly in his lap offering comfort and support.
He leaves behind so many memories. We will all smile when remembering him and what he brought to our lives. Every single day, he and his loving wife told each other “I love you, very much” and ”Honey, I love you very much and will until the day I die”.
Upon Cathy’s death, their ashes will be commingled and distributed at a family gravesite.
A celebration of life will be held at the family home on April 2, 2022, located at 404 Ocean Spray Drive, Swansboro, NC. Friends are welcome to stop by between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. to pay their respects.
