Derrick Brandon Lewis, 46, of Broad Creek, passed away on Monday, March 1, 2021, at his home.

His memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021, at White Oak Church of God in Newport, officiated by Pastor Richard Franklin.

Derrick was born on March 7, 1974, in Morehead City, North Carolina. He was a proud United States Army Veteran and served 2 years working as an E3 Computer Analyst. Following the military, he was able to use his information technology skills with his employment at Toshiba and in later years with a copier company. Derrick was excellent with mathematics and was happy to share his knowledge by tutoring students in our community.

Derrick attended White Oak Church of God and their Academy where he was active with their sports programs. Basketball was his favorite sport to play and he was a proud “White Oak Warrior”. Being a volleyball coach was another aspect of sports that he enjoyed with White Oak Academy. His competitive spirit also thrived with video games which was a fun outlet for him in his free time.

Derrick had a heart for people and was involved in a number of charities in our community. His love for the Lord and his family was evident to all who knew him.

He is survived by his daughter, Beverly Isabella Lewis of Jacksonville, NC; sons, Gabriel Kevin Lewis and husband Tristan of Huntsville, AL, and Michael Brandon Lewis of Broad Creek; stepfather, Michael Rodgers and wife Judy of Tennessee; maternal grandmother, Thelma Arnold of Broad Creek; aunts, Bedie Rhue of Bogue and Angela Clark and husband Jeff of Newport; and uncles, Jeffery Lewis of Broad Creek, and Larry Arnold Jr. and wife Monica of Broad Creek.

Derrick was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Carol Lewis, and maternal grandfather, Larry Arnold.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021, at White Oak Church of God in Newport.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions, in memory of Derrick, may be made to Loaves and Fishes Counselling at P.O. Box 2535, Beaufort, NC 28516.
