Denny Thomas Lawrence, 72, of Morehead City, died Thursday, August 13, 2009, at his residence.
Mr. Lawrence graduated from Morehead City High School in 1954 and joined the US Coast Guard. Following his service in the US Coast Guard, he attended UNC Chapel Hill and graduated in 1962. He was employed with the Federal Health and Human Services for the next 10 years. He then moved back home where he owned and operated several local businesses including the Iron Steamer Fishing Pier and Resort and DJ's Restaurant, until retirement.
Services will be held 11:00 am Monday at Open Door Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Linebarger officiating. Interment will follow in Bayview Cemetery.
He is survived by two daughters, Denise Helms and husband Alan of Chantilly, VA and Maria Vernelson and husband Greg of Franklin; son, Denny Lawrence II of Morehead City; brother, Bobby Lawrence and wife Jean of Morehead City and grandchildren, Katherine and Christine Helms, Jana Vernelson and Grayson Lawrence; his lifetime best friend, Tommy Ballou; a special sister, Hattie Dee Strollo; several nieces and nephews, Duane Willis, Sharon Williams, Mike Lawrence, Tommy Willis and Jeanine Norman and many loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace Lawrence; his wife, Jana Lawrence and sister, Pat Willis.
The family will receive friends 5:00 - 7:00 pm Sunday at Munden Funeral Home. .
