Debra “Deb” Gillikin Guthrie, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, entered into the arms of Jesus on April 28th, 2024, at Carolina East Medical Center surrounded by those she loved most.
Deb was born in Camden, New Jersey on November 16th, 1957, to Golda and Elmer Gillikin. Her passing has left an indelible void in the hearts of her family and friends.
Deb was the epitome of love and selflessness. Her caring nature knew no bounds as she dedicated her life to ensuring the happiness and well-being of those around her. Her heart was boundless; it overflowed with compassion for everyone she encountered. Deb's presence brought warmth and comfort to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Deb was the best cook in the entire world. Her family and friends raved over every meal she prepared and she loved every second of cooking. She also loved sunflowers, rare steak, fresh seafood, birthdays, doing things for others, Little House on the Prairie, hearing Matthew preach, Easter, Thanksgiving and most importantly, her family, longtime nurse and friend Tricia and best doggy partner, Benny.
She leaves behind a legacy that will be cherished by many. “Granny” Deb is survived by her loving daughters, Kimberly Willis (Joey), Kelly Willis (Lee), and Katrina Chestnut (Lin); the absolute loves of her life, her grandchildren, Sarah Reid (Justin), Matthew Willis (Danielle), Kailyn Cahoon (James), and Hailee Willis; as well as great-grandchildren, Saylor, Grayson, and Charlee; also her aunt, June Carolyn Guthrie; and special cousin, Ella Gillikin.
Deb was preceded in death by her mother, Golda Gillikin; father, Elmer Gillikin; and brother, John Hancock.
The loss of Deb has reverberated through the lives of those who had the privilege of knowing her. The memories created with this remarkable woman will forever hold a special place in their hearts.
In our grief over losing such an extraordinary soul too soon from this world, we find solace in knowing that she touched so many lives with kindness and love during her time here among us.
As she embarks on her heavenly journey, we are comforted by the promise of our faith – a faith that assures us of a reunion in God's eternal kingdom. She now rests in peace, in the loving arms of our Savior and Creator, Jesus Christ.
