Dawnna Louise Decker

Dawnna Louise Decker, 57, of Newport, passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2021, at her home.

Her memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, November 8th at Munden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park.

Dawnna was born on September 7, 1964, in Savannah, Georgia. She was known for her vibrant personality; she would light up the room the moment she walked in. Her happy and joyful personality was a trademark that endeared her to so many.

Her happy place was spending time at the beach, soaking in the sunshine and listening to the waves. Being on the open water was certainly a great fit for her. Traveling to various amusement parks around the country was another fun experience Dawnna enjoyed. She always enjoyed local seafood, had a soft spot for small dogs and was always happy to be around children. But her greatest joy was being a mother.

She is survived by her daughter, Brittney Borden and husband Josh of Suffolk, VA; son, Morgan Decker and wife Amie of Trinity, NC; mother, Linda Mathis of Swansboro; sister, Karen Lohr of Swansboro; brother, Kevin Mathis of Beaufort and Chris Mathis of Beaufort; grandchildren, Luca Borden, Mila Borden, Fischer Decker and Finley Decker; partner, Curtis Swinson; and furry friend, Bella.

Dawnna was preceded in death by her father, Lewis “Red” Mathis and son, Morgan Madison Decker.
