David "Pete" Durham

David “Pete” Durham, 75, of Newport, passed away Friday, March 16, 2018 at Carteret Health Care.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home with Rev. Mitchell Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Amariah Garner Cemetery in Newport, NC

Pete was born in Dover, NC and lived most of his life in Newport, NC. He briefly served in the United States Army before starting a long and fruitful career in civil service. He retired from FRC East at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point in 2011. After his retirement his main hobby was spending time with his family and friends and could usually be found at the boat ramp, barbershop or garage.  Pete will be remembered for being a jokester that loved to laugh. He was an avid NASCAR fan that cheered for Dale Earnhardt Sr. A loving husband, father, and grandfather that will be missed.

He is survived by his son, David E. Lewis and his significant other, Melissa L. Sutton of Newport; stepsons, Richard A. Lewis of Newport and Arthur “Art” Lewis of Newport; brothers, Jimmy Ray Durham and Wife, Kay of Newport, and Edward J. Durham and wife, Sandi of Newport; sister, Sandra Durham Styron and husband, Joe of Newport; grandchildren, Delilah Lewis, Landon Lewis, and Peyton Stephens; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife of almost forty years, Alice Ann Pittman Durham; parents, David R. Durham and Bertha Mae Evans Durham; brothers, Robert “Jackie” J. Durham, Johnny Wayne Durham, and Manley “Tommy” Thomas Durham; sisters, Bertha Jean Willis and Myron Estelle Clark; and nieces, Jamie Styron Parnley and Amanda Willis.

Family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC
