David William Wells

David William Wells, 72, of Harkers Island and Otway, died Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Pitt Memorial Hospital. He was born March 17, 1939 to the late George and Essie Wells.

Mr. Wells retired from J.A. Laport Inc., in Arlington, VA, working for over 40 years as a dredge boat captain and later as the Superintendent for the company. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to all. Known as “Pop” to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, David will be well remembered for his congenital manner, great sense of humor, but most of all for his devotion to his family.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at Lighthouse Chapel, 957 Island Road., Harkers Island, NC 28531 with Rev. Ricky Rose and Rev. Paul Mann officiating. Interment will follow at Vergie Mae Cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Rose Wells of the home; three daughters, Deborah Carol Krusz and husband Frankie of Otway, Kim Lupton of Harkers Island, and Essie House and husband Walter L. House of Marshallberg; sister, Mary Lou Rose and husband Leon of Chincoteague, VA; five grandchildren, Veronica Taylor of Bettie, David Lee Lupton of Harkers Island, Ashley Lupton of Davis, Jacklyn Gillikin and Justin Gillikin both of Marshallberg; and three great-grandchildren, Audrianna Rose, Payton Copeland and Brynnen Lupton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Paula Jean Piner, and son-in-law, Gregory Lupton.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday at the church.
