David Christopher Velthoven

David Christopher Velthoven, 47, passed away November 4, 2017 at his home in Cedar Point, North Carolina.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, officiated by Rev. Tom Supplee.  At his request the family will not be receiving friends.

David was born on September 29, 1970, in Newton, New Jersey to Ben and Nancy Velthoven.  Growing up, David and his family spent their summer vacations in Salter Path where David enjoyed playing in the surf and fishing.  At the age of 15, David and his family moved from Sparta, New Jersey to Cedar Point, North Carolina. David’s passion for both surfing and fishing grew as he spent many afternoons on the beach.

Through David’s various occupations he had the opportunity to meet many people and made a lot of great friends along the way.  David didn’t know a stranger, he was an outgoing individual who lit up a room when he entered.   During the time he owned his landscaping business his compassionate personality allowed him to turn not only clients but also employees into friends.  David would take Thanksgiving dinner to an elderly widow because he couldn’t stand the thought of her missing out on a homecooked meal, would purchase new backpacks and school supplies for his employees’ children and go grocery shopping just before Christmas to ensure that his employees had food to eat for the holidays.   David was the kind of man that would give you the shirt off his back.

David passed down his love of fishing to his daughters at a very young age.  He would pack them in the boat with their coloring books, crayons, and a cooler full of snacks to set out for a fun filled day of fishing.  As they grew, many afternoons were spent on the dock in front of their home sharing stories and laughter while waiting for the fish to bite.

David’s untimely passing has left a huge void in the hearts of his family and friends.  David is survived by his daughters, Caroline Velthoven and Hannah Velthoven both of Cedar Point; parents, Ben and Nancy Velthoven of Cedar Point; sister, Linda Staab (Bobby) of Morehead City; brother, Mark Velthoven (Beth) of Hampstead; nephews, Joshua Staab (Laura) of Raleigh, and Darden Velthoven of Hampstead; nieces, Jacqueline Staab and Kiersten Staab of Morehead City.
