D. Brian Pittman, 43, of Newport, went to be with the Lord on August 14, 2017.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 19, at Cape Carteret Baptist Church. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.
He was born December 1, 1973 in Durham, NC, son of David and Cheryll Pittman. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1992 and went on to attend Western Carolina University where he studied English and played basketball. Though Brian lived many places after college, he eventually came to call Carteret County home.
Brian was known as the most articulate of his “clan” and often could be heard over the radio waves of the Talk Station, on his blog, and in his novels. Those in the gym with him would also say his booming voice could be heard throughout the building. Brian was better known for his big heart for others- always willing to give of his time and resources to help anyone in need, expecting nothing in return.
Brian is survived by his parents David and Cheryll Pittman of Clayton, sister Laurie Pittman of Clayton, sister and brother-in-law Janna and Michael Whitt of Clayton, five nieces: Peyton, Avery, Clady, Tara, and Aleah, and grandmother Josephine Pittman of Wilson.
Though Brian will not be able to bless us with his amazing culinary skills, the family will welcome friends at the Newport home following the service. (1254 Nine Foot Rd. Newport, NC 28570)
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Wilson’s Mill’s Baptist Church 652 Swift Creek Rd., Smithfield, NC 27577 or Cape Carteret Baptist Church 101 Anita Forte Dr., Cape Carteret, NC 28584, charities in the communities Brian called home.
