David Pettipas, 82, of Newport, passed away Sunday, November 24, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday at Reece's Chapel with Rev. James Chadwick officiating.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a retired air traffic controller at Cherry Point with 28 years of service. He was a member of Reece's Chapel, and the Moose Lodge. He volunteered his time as a scout master and Little League coach in Newport, and he was an avid fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Pauline "Polly" Pettipas of the home; four children, David Paul Pettipas of Wilmington, Larry L. Olewine and wife Cheryle, John Mark Pettipas and wife Wanda, and Karin Leigh Lawler and husband Steven all of Newport; eight grandchildren, Michelle Lynn Wallace, Jonathan Olewine, Jessica Olewine, Robert Olewine, Mark Bartholomew, Darlynn Pettipas, Caitlyn Pettipas and William Lawler; four great-grandchildren, Brody Pettipas, Genesis Olewine, Madison Wallace and Morgan Wallace; and sister, Janet Leigh Jacobs and husband Jake of Homossasa, FL.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice Pettipas, and a son, Brian Pettipas.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
