David John Leonard, 73, of Ocean, formerly of Mercedes, Texas, passed away Thursday, May ­10­, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center.

Family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City, NC. Graveside services will be held at later date in Sandston, Virginia.

David proudly served in the United States Navy, during the Vietnam War, at Oceana Naval Base in Virginia Beach, Virginia, and was abroad the USS Forrestal in 1967 during the fire. He then joined Snap on Tools in 1971. He was both in management and a dealer, but his love was on his Snap on Tools truck until he retired in 2015. He served his community in various positions of the Crystal Coast Shrine Club and the Lions International Club Foundation, receiving the Jack Stickley Award and Melvin Jones Fellows. David was also President of the Republican Men’s Club, on the Advisory Board of Sound Bank and was an Honorary Member of the Carteret County Sherriff’s Association

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruthann M. Leonard, of the home; mother, Bettie Jo Leonard Warden of Scottsdale, AZ; brother and first of the triplets, Donald E. Leonard of Rocky Mount, NC; brother, Ronald B. Leonard and wife, Diana, of Scottsdale, AZ; brother-in-law, Spencer L. Marshall and wife, Jennifer, of Powhatan, VA; nephews, Robert Steele and wife, Sarah of Hanover, VA, Lance Leonard of Scottsdale, AZ, Spencer L. Marshall, Jr., of Powhatan, VA; nieces, Tish Bernier and husband, Brian, of Gilbert, AZ and Emily Marshall of Powhatan, VA; many grandnephews and grandnieces; and his faithful companion Sassy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gordan H. Leonard and third triplet brother, Dick G. Leonard.
