David was born on July 21, 1966, in Morehead City, NC, to Arthur P. Johnson and Paula Miller Johnson Ramsey and he was a graduate of West Carteret High School with the Class of 1984. In his professional life, David was a well-respected member of the community through his work as an electrician with H & H Electric. David worked there faithfully for 40 years and took great pride in being the provider for his family.
Blessed to have spent his life with his sweetheart, Melissa, they shared many happy years together and had an amazing life. David adored his daughter, Peyton, who was the apple of his eye. David's love for his family was immeasurable and he was happiest when spending time with them.
David loved concerts and he was proud to be among the many Parrott Head fans of his favorite singer being Jimmy Buffett. He embraced their laid-back vibe, and loved travelling to Florida, Myrtle Beach, SC, and the Caribbean, visiting all the Margaritaville locations.
A sports fanatic, David enjoyed rooting on his favorite teams, including the Carolina Tar Heels, the Dallas Cowboys and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed hunting and had many special memories of time spent in the woods with his father. He loved dove season, especially opening day.
David enjoyed grilling out and proudly considered himself the Grill Master, his specialty being Boston butts and chicken. He loved having family get together and was famous for his cookouts. And of course, nothing was more enjoyable than sitting around the fire pit, having fun, and drinking a beer.
David had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome with his big smile, incredible sense of humor and his engaging stories which brought joy to those around him. His kindness and willingness to assist others were a blessing to so many. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Melissa Hughes Johnson; daughter, Peyton Taylor Johnson of Newport; mother, Paula Miller Johnson Ramsey and husband Tom of Newport; sister, Deanna Windham and husband Harold of Newport; father and mother-in-law, Walter and Linda Hughes of Newport; sister-in-law, Angela Hughes of Newport; nephew, Douglas Windham and wife Danielle of Newport; niece, Sara Terry and husband Garland of Lenoir; great niece and nephew, Alana and Brantley Windham; and David’s side kick, his special dog, Luke.
David was preceded in death by his father, Arthur P. Johnson.
