David Clinton Hill, 65, of Atlantic, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, at his home.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, October 29th at Cedar Island Community Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Eddie Hill.
David was born on June 17, 1956, in Chandler, Arizona, to Neil and Marie Hill. In his early years, he built Core Sounder boats, was the official diver for the Atlantic Fire Department, then went to work for F.L. Nichols Dry Wall in Clayton and ultimately went on to build Hill Craft Boats. For David, boat building wasn’t just a job, it was a passion.
In his free time, David could be found riding around on his golf cart enjoying the beauty of the day or spending time with his grandchildren, who he loved dearly. Working on boat motors or tinkering on projects kept him happily busy as well.
A great interest for David was the Language and Life Project, which features the Carolina Brogue we all know and love. Rooted in twenty years of fieldwork, research, and community ties, “The Carolina Brogue” is a candid portrait of contemporary life on the Carolina Coast, and a look at one of the most unique dialects in the world.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Hill of the home; daughter, Sarah Settle of Atlantic; son, Andrew Hill and wife Amber of Wilmington; mother, Marie Hill of Atlantic; sister, Ilse Englehardt of Beaufort; son-in-law, Kenny Page of Knightdale; grandchildren, Riki Page of Knightdale and Cash Mason of Atlantic; one foster granddaughter; and special friends, Fred Nichols and wife Sue and Brian Narron and wife Christy, for always being there for David.
David was preceded in death by his father, Neil Hill; daughter, Rachel Page; sister, Debra Faw; and cousin, Tommy Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
The family would like to thank Carteret Hospice Nurses along with Dr. Mannava for their wonderful care. As well as to Jennifer Willis for always making David laugh. Thank you also to Community Home Care and Hospice and to Mandy and Tim for their great support. A special thank you to all of David’s friends from near and far.
