Daniel Roy, Jr., 69, of Morehead City, passed away Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at his home.

Staff Sergeant Daniel Roy, Jr. was born February 18, 1948 in New Orleans, LA to the late A.D. and Bernethia Burton. Later, he was adopted by his grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Roy, Sr. As a youth, he attended Valley Missionary Baptist Church, Picayune, MS.  He attended G.W. Carter High School and graduated from Job Corps and was later drafted into the United States Army at the age of 18 and served his first tour in Vietnam.  He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served another tour in Vietnam.  He retired in 1988, after spending 20 years in the United State Marine Corps. After retirement, he worked many years for Cayton Plumbing Company of New Bern, NC and for Bath Concept up until 2010. He was a proud man, (NO more 9-5) for Daniel Roy. Daniel was a #1 Dallas Cowboy fan; he also enjoyed fishing. He loved his family and the Marine Corps.

A funeral service, with military honors, will be held Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at 12 p.m. at God’s City of Refuge in Newport, officiated by Apostle, Dr. Willie Murray, Sr. Interment will be at 12 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville.

He leaves, to cherish his memory, his wife, Glenda Bryant Roy; his son, Rodney Burton, Sr. of Washington, DC; daughter, Ebony Hill (Dalton) of Newport; brothers, A.D. Roy, Carl Ray Burton (Delores), Don Griffith, Joseph Burton (Leonora), Larry Burton (Dianne), Victor Burton (Lisa) all of Picayune, MS., Theodore Burton of Columbus, GA; sisters, Juanita Terrell, Felicia Davis (Coleman) of Picayune, MS; step-children, Melodie Reels and Sheldon Faison of Newport, NC; brothers-in-law, Michael Bryant of Raleigh, Ronald Bryant of Morehead City; sisters-in-law, Brenda Johnson (Sylvester) of Beaufort, Sharon Johnson (James) of Jacksonville, FL; 4 grandsons and 1 step-grandson; mother-in-law, Mrs. Josephine Bryant  of Newport, who he called “Mom” and a host of in-laws, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Special friends, Mr. and Mrs. C. Jones from James City, NC who was there whenever he called. Daniel, you will be missed.

Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at God’s City of Refuge in Newport.

God blessed me, Glenda Bryant Roy, to have this man in my life.  He was truly the love of my life and a friend. I will go on without you, but oh, it will be hard! I will always love you and oh, how you will be missed.

Daniel Roy was a great man and father, who loved his children, grandchildren and family.  His grandchildren, Rodney Jr., Bryan, Jordan, Christian and Michael – you were his heart! Remember granddaddy loved you!
