Daniel Joseph O'Mara

Daniel Joseph O’Mara, 86, of Cape Carteret, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018, at Carteret Health Care.

Mr. O’Mara served in the U.S. Air Force as a pilot during the Vietnam Conflict. He graduated from West Point Military Academy with an engineering degree and went onto Purdue University where he earned his Master’s degree. He was a member of St. Mildred’s Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Rose Ann O’Mara of the home; daughter, Diane Campbell and husband, Bruce, of Williamsburg, MO; sons, Daniel Joseph O’Mara, Jr. and wife, Karen, of Rochester, NY, David William O’Mara and wife, Meri, of Hamlin, NY, Dennis Michael O’Mara and wife, Katy, of Goose Creek, SC, Donald Patrick O’Mara and wife, Karrie, of Emerald Isle; sisters, Katy Van Bell of Wilmington and Margie Lane and husband, Al, of Scipio Center, NY; brother, Art O’Mara and wife, Ursula, of Moravia, NY; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Marguerite O’Mara.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the West Point Museum, at West Point Association of Graduates, Attn:  Ms. Laurie Fontana, 698 Mills Rd, West Point, NY 10996.  Checks should be made out to the Association (or WPAOG) and either on the memo line or noted in an accompanying letter, indicate the donation is for the West Point Museum Endowment.
