Daniel “Danny” Morris Gillikin, 77, of Havelock, NC, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Carolina East Medical Center.
Danny’s Celebration of Life Service will be held in the spring at Vergie Mae Cemetery in Harkers Island.
Danny was born on December 30, 1946, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Clayton and Esther Gillikin. He loved walking and talking with the Lord throughout his life. His faith was first and foremost.
Danny served in the United States Air Force for 4 years before dedicating himself to Civil Service at Cherry Point for 38 years and 4 months. He later became a tour guide for Fort Macon State Park, which he thoroughly enjoyed.
He was an avid fisherman and NASCAR enthusiast. He especially liked baseball and also enjoyed watching the Cubs play in the Major League. Danny had many hobbies and interests. He was a member of the VFW and the Civil War Roundtable, and a proud supporter of the RNC. Danny gave back to his community as the president and coach of the Babe Ruth Baseball league, inspiring countless young athletes. He enjoyed working in his yard and spending quality time with his wife of over 30 years. One of the past times he enjoyed was traveling to Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, and Maggie Valley with his grandchildren. He loved telling stories to all he knew. One of his sayings was “We’ll get it done, even if it takes you the rest of the day”.
Those left to treasure his memory are his loving wife, Deborah Tetterton Gillikin of the home; sons, Richard Morris Gillikin (Ellen Marie Brooks) of Harkers Island, and Jon Warden Gillikin (Rebecca Taylor) of Beaufort; stepdaughter, Natalie DiJoseph of New Bern; and grandchildren, Hannah Marie Gillikin, Kayla Noel Gillikin, and Benjamin Giuseppe DiJoseph; and great-grandchildren, Luke Morris Gillikin, and John Curtis Fulcher.
In addition to his parents, Danny was preceded in death by his half-sister, Norma Jean Gillikin.
