Curtis Wade Russell Sr., 71, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A memorial service to honor Curtis’ life will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, August 8th at the Living Waters Church of God of Prophecy in Bogue, officiated by Rev. Tony Russell. Interment will follow at the Russell Family Cemetery in Bogue.
Curtis was born on June 24, 1953, in Morehead City, NC, to the late Lionel and Doris Russell. Gifted with a beautiful voice and a deep love for music, Curtis and his brothers often gathered together to sing the old gospel tunes. His passion for music extended to his favorite pastime of sitting on his back porch, listening to the golden oldies of country music.
Curtis will be fondly remembered as a loving husband, a supportive father, and a proud grandfather who cherished his family immensely.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his loving and devoted wife of 26 years, Freida Russell; daughters, Jennifer Smith (Tim) of Goldsboro, NC and Gina Bonds (Jesse) of Statesville, NC; son, Curtis Wade Russell Jr. (Shannon) of Wendell, NC; stepsons, Michael LeFevers (Rita) of Hickory, NC and Robert LeFevers of Newport, NC; sister, Brenda Carol Futrell (Elton) of Bogue; brothers, Major Allan Russell (Rhonda) and Rev. Tony Lionel Russell (Kathy), all of Bogue; and numerous loving grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Curtis was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Waverly Russell; and brother, William Gene Russell.
