Clyde Norman Burleson Jr., 84, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House.
A funeral service to honor Clyde’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 14th at Munden Funeral Home, officiated by Pastor Sally Salter. Interment will follow at Broad Creek Community Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Clyde was born on October 7, 1939, in Albemarle, NC, to the late Clyde and Phronie Lee Burleson. Born as the youngest son of seven children, he grew up with a love for sports and proudly played basketball during his high school years. After graduating, he answered the call to serve his country, proudly enlisting in the United States Air Force. He moved to Morehead City after marrying the love of his life, Glenda. He continued serving the nation by working at Cherry Point for over 30 years following his time in the military.
An outdoorsman at heart, Clyde found joy in the simple pleasures of nature. He was a passionate beekeeper, a dedicated gardener, and loved spending time with his chickens. The water called to him, and he loved nothing more than being on the shore, clamming, catching mullet, watching boats pass by, or going for boat rides to check in on what the boys were up to on the water. Clyde was a people person and one of the friendliest people you could ever meet. He loved NASCAR and football but especially loved spending time with his grandsons. Clyde was devoted to his family and he will be deeply missed by his friends and loved ones.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Glenda Marianne Burleson of Newport; son, Chris Burleson (Lisa Cruse) of Newport; sister, Marie Skipper (Carlton) of Havelock; and grandchildren, Chris Norman Burleson Jr., and Zachary Lee Burleson.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Paul Duke Burleson; sisters, Evelyn Clark, Audrey Faulkenberry, Joyce Burleson, and Bobbie Nell Efrid; and brother, Dillon Burleson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 640, Newport, N.C. 28570.
