Clive D. Luckenbill

June 13, 1931 — July 6, 2012

Retired Lt. Col. Clive Douglas Luckenbill, U.S. Air Force, 81, of Pine Knoll Shores, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, July 6, 2012.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m, Monday, July 16th at Open Door Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Linebarger officiating.  Burial with full military honors will be at the Coastal Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Jacksonville.

Clive was born in San Diego, California to John and Winona Luckenbill.  He played baseball for Long Beach City College and UCLA where he received his Bachelor of Science in Business degree. During his 22-year Air Force career, he was a navigator for two years before entering pilot training where he graduated at the top of his class.  During the early part of his career he was a C-141 transport pilot, and later served in the Air Logistics Command.  He served in Viet Nam from 1968 to 1969 as Commander of an Air Logistics Center in Vung Tau. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in Viet Nam; he also was awarded two Meritorious Service Medals, The Air Force Commendation Medal, and The Air Medal for outstanding airmanship and courage under extremely hazardous conditions from 1968 to 1971. While on active duty, he attended night classes and was awarded a Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University.  After his retirement in 1977 from the Air Force, he was a teacher for the Department of Defense, achieving the academic rank of Professor Emeritus at Wright Patterson Air Force, Dayton, Ohio, until 1993 when he moved to Pine Knoll Shores.
Clive was a devoted father and friend and is survived by his wife of 59 years, Jackie Luckenbill; daughter Dennise Wolfe; sons, Brad and wife Jill, Brian and wife Robyn;  eleven grandchildren, Michael,  Joshua, Suzanne, Daniel and wife Jessi,  Katie, Marisa, Jackie-Marie, Trevin, Clive-Jacob, and Haley; sister, Darla N. Hall and niece, Leslie Hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials maybe be made to Open Door Baptist Church, 227 Hwy 24, Morehead City, NC 28557, designated for American Heritage Girls.
