Clinton met the love of his life, Polly Hartgrove, while stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. They married one year later and were shipped to Germany. After 2 ½ years they returned to the States and settled in Tennessee and he enrolled at Knoxville Airline School. He went to work for Delta Airlines in Indianapolis, Indiana and later transferred back to Knoxville, Tennessee in the shadow of the Great Smoky Mountains. After 10 years he was transferred to Kansas City, Missouri. In 1980, due to an illness, he was given 3 years to live by the doctors in Missouri, so he retired, with Polly, and they moved back to Beaufort, North Carolina.
