Clara Elizabeth (Creagh) Wall

February 13, 1930 — July 16, 2014

Clara Elizabeth Creagh Wall, 84, of Newport, died peacefully, surrounded by family Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Harborview Health Care Center in Morehead City.

Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James United Methodist Church in Newport, with a graveside service to follow at Gethsemane Cemetery. Visitation will be at Munden Funeral Home from 3-5 pm on Sunday.

Clara was born in Pollocksville to Jones County Sherriff John W. Creagh and Lillie Bell Barrus. Her ancestors include Otway Burns I, Revolutionary War hero and father of War of 1812 Privateer Otway Burns, and John W. Creagh, Doorkeeper for the Virginia Constitutional Conventions of 1775-1776 and friend of George Washington. She graduated from East Carolina Teacher’s College and taught 3rd Grade in public schools in Jacksonville, Havelock, and Newport for 30 years. Known as “Miss Wall” to students, “Mrs. Clara” to her friends and church family, and “Nana” to her 7 grandchildren, she left a legacy of love, caring, southern gentility and charm to all who met her. She was loved by all, including her residence and staff friends at Harborview over the past three years.

She was married to Wiley L. Wall of Micro , who died in 1988. Theirs was truly a “love match”, now reunited. They had two children, Bevin W. Wall and his wife, Pam of Newport, and Lisa Wall, and her fiance Tom Buck of Greensboro. Also surviving is a brother, John W. Creagh, Jr. of Pollocksville; and seven grandchildren, Megan Montague and husband Gregory of Marietta, GA, McKenzie McCart and husband Shane of Atlanta, GA, Madison Wall at Emory University of Atlanta, GA, and Ryan Wall, Austin Kues, Jessica Kues, and Seth Wall, all of Greensboro, NC.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Allen Creagh and her sister, Anne Creagh O'Bryan.

In lieu of flowers and in keeping with Nana’s wishes, she has requested that memorial gifts be made to The Children’s Home Society of North Carolina, P.O. Box 14608, Greensboro, NC 27415.
