Clara Belle Taylor McGirk, 89, of Sea Level, peacefully died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Carteret General Hospital in Morehead City, NC.
Mrs. McGirk was a lifelong member of the Sea Level United Methodist Church and President of the United Methodist Women.
Mrs. McGirk attended the Raleigh School of Commerce in Raleigh, N.C. where she studied Court Stenograpy in the 1940's. She answered "the call" and went to work for the U.S. Federal Government in Washington, D.C. at the outbreak of World War II. During her career as a court reporter she recorded on hearings at the Pentagon, Capital Hill and the Alexandria Virginia City Hall.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Wednesday at the Sea Level United Methodist Church with Rev. Paul Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Nelson Bay Cemetery in Sea Level.
She is survived by her son, Joseph W. McGirk of the home; sister, Mildred Jewel Taylor Simmons of Snug Harbor; her two brothers, Alvah Braxton Taylor of Sea Level and Rodney B. Taylor of Morehead City and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. McGirk is preceded in death by her Mother and Father, Angeline and Alvah B. Taylor of Sea Level; a brother, Eldred Gordon Taylor of Beaufort, S.C. and her husband of 52 years, Clyde W. McGirk of Sea Level.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday at Sea Level United Methodist Church.
