Christine Ann VanDeVoord Leuthold
7th February 1958 ~ 12th January 2022
Beloved Wife, Friend, and Aunt
Born to MSGT Francis Edward VanDeVoord and Helen Marie Taylor VanDeVoord at USMC Air Station Cherry Point North Carolina. After her father retired from the service, they moved back to Atkinson, Illinois. She attended Catholic school and Graduated from Atkinson Community Unit High School Class Of 1976 with honors.
In April of 1977, she joined the United States Marine Corps. Attended Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, North Carolina. She then received Computer Sciences training at MCDEC Quantico, Virginia, and the rest of her enlistment was at the Marine Corps Finance Center, Kansas City, Missouri when she separated as SGT Christine Leuthold in April of 1981. During her time in service, she met her future husband, LCPL Thomas Leuthold.
She married her husband of 41 years June 21st, 1980. They moved to Rochelle, Illinois in 1981, working together in the computer field. In 1982, they took jobs at Swiss Valley Farms Dairy Coop in Mt. Joy, Iowa. In 2000, she left Swiss Valley to become a Home Remodeler with her husband in Maryville, Tennessee. She retired in 2020 and in January of 2021 moved back to North Carolina. She was blessed to be around her family until illness took her life.
Chris Loved the Outdoors. She traveled 100,000+ miles on the back of her husband's motorcycles. She loved cats and they were her children. Her love of animals was absolute, but her true Love was for the horses she had. Besides gardening and lawn care, she was passionate about FISHING. She and her husband traveled the country on numerous vacation and weekend fishing trips. She liked to run and entered many races with her friends. Being a lifetime Bears Fan, Chris loved Football and watched every game she could. She was always happiest when she could give of herself.
Chris was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, Dave and Steve. She is survived by her brothers, Ronald and Jerry; and sister, Constance; along with many nieces and nephews.
She will be sorely missed by all, as she was always the life of the party.
Chris would like anyone who wishes to please make a donation to your local animal shelter in her name instead of sending flowers.
