Charles Dana "Charlie" Gibson, Sr., 78, of Stella, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2015 at Carolina East Medical Center surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday, June 4, 2015 at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Danny French officiating. Interment will follow at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Bogue.

Charlie was born August 25, 1936 in Baltimore, Maryland. He retired from law enforcement after 28 years, serving as a Lieutenant with the Pine Knoll Shores Police Department, the Cape Carteret Police Department, and as a Special Deputy with the Carteret County Sheriffs Department. He served in the U.S. Navy and the Army National Guard. He was a member and first Chief of the Stella Fire Department and past member of Stella and Cape Carteret Fire and Rescue Squad. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post # 9960, the Woodmen of the World, and past member of Swansboro Moose Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Linda H. Gibson; son, Charles Dana "Chucky" Gibson, Jr. and wife Briton of Stella; daughter, Kimberly Michelle Gibson of Stella; seven grandchildren, C.J. Gillikin, Bradley Gibson, David Hunter Gibson, Katlyn Gibson, Georgia Ray Ketchum, Mia Wertz and Massi Wertz all of Stella; three sisters, Mildred Jenkins and husband Roy of Trenton, Barbara Bywater of Ashley, MI, and Helen Jones and husband Bill of Mill Creek; and sisters-in-law, Carolyn Gibson of Gales Creek, and Judy Peacock and husband Carl of Chesapeake, VA. He is also survived by 12 nieces and 14 nephews who held him in high regards and condsider their Uncle Charles a role model.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Helen Gibson, and mother and father-in-law, Sylvester and Hilda Hall; loving aunt, Effie; two brothers, Ralph Gibson and Jimmy Gibson; and two brothers-in-law, David Hall, and Paul Bywater.

The family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 pm Wednesday at Munden Funeral Home.
