Charles "Charlie" Howard Coppedge, age 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 28, 2023. He was surrounded by his family at his home in Emerald Isle, North Carolina.
Charlie was born in Rocky Mount, NC on August 2, 1946, to the late Charles H. Coppedge and Edith Avent Coppedge. He graduated from Tustin High School in Tustin, California. After high school, he joined the Army and served for three years. Following his service in the military he attended Sandhills Community College in Southern Pines, NC. While at Sandhills he met and married his wife of fifty-three years, Suzanne. They married and transferred to Appalachian State University in Boone, NC. Upon graduating from Appalachian with a business administration and marketing degree, he worked for A.C. Neilsen in their marketing department division. His job moved him to Hollywood, Florida and then to Pensacola, Florida. Charlie eventually left A.C. Neilsen to begin his career at Heilig Meyers Furniture Company. He retired from Heilig Meyers Furniture while in Harrisonburg, VA, and then made his move to Emerald Isle, NC in 2017.
Charlie was known for his infectious smile and his kind compassionate ways. Before retirement, he was an avid golfer. In retirement, the simplest pleasures in life brought immense joy to Charlie. He enjoyed friends and neighbors dropping in and visiting in his "Breeze Way Lounge". Charlie enjoyed conversation, reading, riding his bicycle, and listening to music. Most of all Charlie enjoyed family. The family finds great comfort in knowing that Charlie will be greeted in heaven by the family and friends that arrived before him.
Charlie is survived by his wife Suzanne, son Chad and his wife Laura, grandson Chase, granddaughter Raven, great-granddaughter Norah, a brother Bill and his wife Lynn, and two nephews.
In keeping with Charlie's wishes there will be no formal funeral service. All who wish to honor Charlie are invited to donate to Carolina East Foundation (Journey of Hope) at 2007 B Neuse Blvd., New Bern, NC 28560.
