Charles Lindbergh Smith, Sr.

Charles “Lindbergh” Smith, Sr., 88, of Newport, passed away Monday, December 21, 2015 at Carteret Health Care.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 am Thursday, December 24, 2015 at Newport Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Carroll officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery with military honors.
Charles retired from the U.S. Coast Guard after 21 years of service. He was a member of Newport Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Effie Riggs Smith of the home; son, Charles L. Smith, Jr. and wife, Jo Ann of Portsmouth, VA; also two grandchildren, Brian Smith and wife Diane, and Jason Smith; and one great-grandchild, Jackson Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie P. and Effie Sanderson Smith; and daughter, Donna Smith.
The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Wednesday at the church.
