Charles Nicholas Roeckell, 85, of Carolina Pines, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Carolina East Medical Center. Suzanne A. Roeckell, 84, of Carolina Pines, passed away on Saturday, January 29, 2022, in her home.

A memorial mass for Charles and Suzanne will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, February 14th, at Annunciation Catholic Church, officiated by Rev. Jim Buchholz. The family will receive friends an hour prior.

Suzanne was born in the Bronx, New York, on March 7, 1937, to the late Vito and Jenny E Marella. Suzanne enjoyed being busy and was happiest when helping others. As a devout Catholic woman, she was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and was involved in the Catholic Daughters. She was a friendly face that many will remember from the number of years she volunteered at Carolina East. She served as past President of the Ladies Golf Association as well as the Garden Club of Carolina Pines. In her retirement years she was active with the Havelock Senior Citizens Center and was a member of the Seniors Club in Havelock.

Charles was born on February 28, 1936, in the Bronx, New York to the late Charles and Mae Roeckell. Following high school, he honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. Charles worked faithfully as a maintenance supervisor for the New York State Thruway Authority. He was a very giving man who was a member of the Elks Lodge in New York as well as the Knights of Columbus. Charles had a strong passion for his community and his church, Annunciation Catholic Church, where he enjoyed volunteering and helping whenever possible.

Suzanne and Charles will be remembered as a loving couple of 61 years, supportive parents, and proud grandparents to the grandchildren and great grandchild.

They are survived by their daughters, Gina DeBona and husband John of New Bern, Mary Mannix and husband Richard of Larchmont, NY and Suzanne Moreno and husband Al of Mount Prospect, IL; grandchildren, Gina Wente (David), Caitlyn Holland (Jerry), Christine Mannix, Richard Mannix, Charlie Moreno (Samantha), Faith Moreno, and Katharine Mannix; great granddaughter, Charlotte Holland; and Charles’ sister, Francis Thomas of Bronx, NY.

In addition to their parents, Suzanne was preceded in death by her sisters, Florence DeMatteo, Vera Daddino, Anita Mongello, and Angela Naclerio. Charles was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Ann McQuade and Elizabeth Rollins; and brother, Nicholas Roeckell.
