Charles W. Johnson, 89, of Emerald Isle, North Carolina, passed away on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.
A graveside service to honor Charles’ life will be held at 1 p.m., Friday, February 7th at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Durham.
Charles was born on March 17, 1935, in Durham, NC, to the late Fred and Libbie Johnson. He was a devoted husband to Sybil, whom he married on December 29, 1951. They remained in Durham where they established a successful Heating and Air Conditioning Business.
Charles was a member of Swansboro Methodist Church, where he was actively involved in the Methodist Men Group. He enjoyed their activities, particularly the tradition of cooking meals for the whole church and cooking peanuts, bringing joy and fellowship to those around him. A committed member of the Civitan Organization, Charles devoted many years to the services of the Durham group.
Charles embraced life with a “can do” spirit. He loved boating, fishing and living on the Crystal Coast where he always appreciated the beauty around him. He possessed a remarkable ability to fix anything, demonstrating his resourcefulness and practical skills.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughter, Bonnie Johnson of Cape Carteret, NC; 3 sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife in 2022 whom he shared 70 years with, Sybil C. Johnson; son, Charles "Chuck" W. Johnson Jr.; and sister, Elsie King.
The Johnson family expresses heartfelt gratitude to Crystal Bluffs Rehabilitation and Health Care Center for their exceptional care over the past three years. The family also thanks his friends who faithfully visited and encouraged him.
