Charles Daly

Charles H. Daly, 90, formerly of Cape Carteret, passed away, Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Taylor Extended Care in Sea Level.

Mr. Daly was mayor of Cape Carteret and a town commisioner. He was instrumental in getting Highway 24 widened between Swansboro and Morehead City. He served as Assistant State Director of AARP, helped to develop the Cape Carteret Chapter and served as President of the chapter.

Mr. Daly was a Political Appointee under John Kennedy. He served on many Presidential Commissions for President Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford. He retired from the government with 20 years of service. He was a veteran of WWII and served with General Patton's Third Army in the 76th Division.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 am Friday, October 16th, at St. Mildred's Catholic Church, 653 Hammock Rd., Swansboro, NC.

He is survived by his daughter, Patti Daly Lenz of Lakeville, MN, two sons, Stephen and Thomas of Cape Carteret, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Maitland Daly, son, Brian J. Daly and daughter, Ellen Daly Robinson.
