Charles Lester Brown, 69, formerly of Beaufort, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville.
A graveside service to honor Charles’ life will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 17th at the Coastal Carolina Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, NC.
Charles was born on August 5, 1954, in Morehead City, North Carolina, to the late Rufus and Margaret Brown. A dedicated veteran, Charles proudly served in both the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army. He truly cherished his service to his country.
Throughout his life, Charles worked diligently as a truck driver, covering countless miles across the country. Known for his hard work and compassionate nature, he always extended a helping hand to those in need. An animal lover at heart, there wasn’t a furry friend that he didn’t take time to acknowledge and pay attention to. In his free time, Charles enjoyed fishing, always ready for the next big catch.
Charles loved his family who will remember him as a loving and caring father and grandfather.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his sons, Troy Lee Brown and wife Jennifer Horne-Brown of Wilmington, NC and Greg Leon Brown and companion Bridgett Beck of Newport, NC; sister, Esther Brown Fulford and husband David of Newport, NC; and grandchildren, T.J. Brown, Gregory Brown, and Kylee Brown.
In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his sister, Pat Wood; and his sidekick, his dog, Monkey.
