C. Dean Oglesby, Jr., 74, of Morehead City, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 at his home.
The family and church will conduct a Celebration of Life to be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, June 7, 2018 at St. James United Methodist Church in Newport officiated by Rev. Tom Supplee.
Dean graduated from UNC Chapel Hill in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in History. He remained a diehard Carolina Tarheel fan for life and longtime member of the Rams Club. He founded Carolina Custom Traders, specializing in custom clothing and promotional items. The success of his business was due to his hard work and artistic talent. He had a love for Carteret County from his time vacationing as a child and made a permanent move in 2007. He loved being out on Bogue Sound in his boat “Reel Joy”, combining his love of fishing and his wife. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. Retirement allowed him to pursue his love of history and traveling, however, his greatest passion was spending time with family.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Adams Oglesby of the home; children, Carroll Dean Oglesby, III and wife Allie Long Oglesby of New York, NY, and Elizabeth Anne Ashford Oglesby of Asheville; siblings, Sallie Oglesby Eason and husband Gene Eason, Jr. of Farmville, James Mark Oglesby and wife Pamela B. Oglesby of Newport, and Dennis Waverly Oglesby and wife Thea K. Oglesby of Greensboro; and many loved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Carroll Dean Oglesby and Gene Horton Oglesby; and his second mother, Lillie Parker.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Fellowship Hall at St. James United Methodist Church.
Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to St. James United Methodist Church, Margaret Garner Scholarship Fund, PO Box 250, Newport, NC 28570.
