Carol Pittman

Carol Morton Pittman peacefully passed away Friday, March 4, 2016 at The Pines in Davidson, NC at the age of 79.

Carol is survived by her children, Cassandra Bennett, Allison Talbert and her husband Reggie and Jerry Pittman; grandchildren, Emily Roe and husband Ron, Tyler Bennett, Andrew Bennett, Kelly Pittman Ramey and  husband Chris, Ashley Pittman, Parker Talbert, Carson Talbert, Austin Talbert, Madison Pittman, Hayden Pittman; great grandchildren, Krysta and William Roe, Rubyen Bennett and Kaylee Ramey; her siblings, Lillie Thomas husband Rudy of Tarboro, NC, Faye Davis of Roxboro, NC, and Buddy Morton and wife Louise of Jacksonville, NC along with many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wm Jerry Pittman, her son, Wm Gregory Pittman, her daughter in law, Debra Pittman and her sister, Mildred Gorman.

Carol was born on October 27, 1936 in the Piney Green community of Jacksonville, NC to Kater and Minnie Morton. She graduated from White Oak High School in 1954. Upon graduation she married her childhood sweetheart, Jerry. Carol delighted in her role as wife, mother and homemaker. Jerry‘s career afforded her the opportunity to establish a home for her family across NC and VA while easily gathering a community of friends wherever she went. Carol was always able to find a place to serve in whatever community or church in which she was associated be it Sunday School Teacher, Girls Auxiliary, Vacation Bible School, summer church Camp (Camp Albemarle, Ridgecrest, Fort Caswell) or Girl Scouts. Carol’s children remember her as the matriarch of their home, imparting the value of family that extended to her grandchildren. She was dedicated to sharing her Christian faith, love of nature and talents with each of them. Character attributes that set Carol apart include her warm smile, soft touch, gentle grace, rich conversations, welcoming hospitality and her ability to never tell a lie. Carol is best known for her love of decorating, cooking, sewing, gardening, books and the vibrancy of fall leaves. She was a member of the Home Extensions Club, Beaufort Gardening Club and the Strange Seafood Lab. Volunteering in the Annual Beaufort Old Homes Tour was always a highlight of each summer.

In her late fifties, Carol pursued her life-long desire to attend college. Upon completing her associate degree for Carteret Community College, she enrolled at East Carolina University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Masters of Science in Social Work. Her love for people and family extended into her career where she served as a social worker for the Carteret County Department of Social Services Child  Protection and Hospice of Carteret County.

Although the advancement of Parkinson’s disease overtook both her mind and body in her late years, Carol’s kind and gentle spirit never diminished and was evident to all who visited or cared for her at The Pines of Davidson in Davidson, NC A special thank you to the dedicated care team of The Pines and to the Palliative and Hospice Care of Mecklenburg County.

A memorial service celebrating Carol’s life is planned for Saturday, March 12, 2016 at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church, 403 Ann St. Beaufort, NC 28516.

Family will receive friends at 10:00 am at the church.
