Capt. Hughes “Buck” Wilde, Jr., 55, of Straits, passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville.

A Memorial Service for Buck will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church with the Reverend John Pollock officiating.

Buck was loved by all who knew him. Buck was a Master Diver, Master Boat Builder and avid fisherman. He was an activist for the Democratic Political Party. Buck was a writer and a blogger as well as a storyteller. He taught a Captain Instruction Course. Buck was also an Eagle Scout.

Buck is survived by his wife; Debbie Inez Freeman-Wilde of the home; father, Hugh Leonard Wilde of Straits; sisters, Harriette Elizabeth Wilde Cooper of Newport, Rachel Louise Wilde of Raleigh, and Rebecca Wilde of Boone; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his mother; Harriette Elizabeth Davis Wilde; and brother, Stuart Isler Wilde.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Munden Funeral Home in Morehead City.

The family invites friends to visit at the family home located at 180 Breezy Pointe Rd., Beaufort, NC.

Flowers are welcome or donations can be made to Food Bank of Central and East North Carolina, PO Box 58129, Raleigh, 27604 or Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 2005 Arendell St., Morehead City or to a charity of one’s choice.
