Cabell Clark Ramsey, 81, of Harkers Island, died Sunday, January 20, 2013 at Carteret General Hospital.
Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am Wednesday at Munden Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Aaron Golden officiating. Interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens.
A native of Kinston, he was born on October 9, 1931, one of six children born to the late A. F. and Adreienne Ramsey. He was an active leader in the community. He joined the Kinston Jaycees in 1953 and held every office up to and including Jaycee State President 1965-1966. He was the moving force behind the successful establishment of a permanent location for the Lenior County Jaycee Fair. He received the distinguished service award as Kinston's Outstanding Young Man of 1960. He was a Registered Scout and Scouter for 20 years. Holder of Eagle Scout and Silver Beaver Award, and he was also instrumental in helping establish a permanent Boy Scout Headquarters in Kinston.
He was a charter member of Spilman Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for 13 years. President of Ramsey Realty and Insurance Company from 1958-1978. He was a Resident of Harkers Island 1979-2013 where he was the owner and operator of the East'ard Variety Store, also locally known as "Cab's" until 1996. From 1996 until his passing, he was a fixture at Jarrett Bay Boatworks helping his son, Randy, grow the company into an industry leader.
He is survived by his only child Randall "Randy" Clark Ramsey and his wife Tiffany of Beaufort, North Carolina, one grandson Alan Ramsey, and one great granddaughter Autumn, and two sisters Jean Byrd of Silver Springs, Maryland and Nancy Balaban of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara and his three brothers Forrest, Herbert, and Harvey Ramsey.
The family will receive friends 6:00 - 7:30 pm Tuesday at Munden Funeral Home.
